Hannah Kahn is a master teacher of modern dance technique. Her class begins with a floor barre, then progresses to upper body work and moves to the barre. A warm up combination follows preparing the class for the main combination which is drawn from Hannah Kahn’s repertory. The main influences on Kahn’s teaching are Jose Limon technique (Sally Stackhouse, Betty Jones, Jennifer Muller); ballet (Zena Rommett, Maggie Black): and in a more indirect way, the techniques of Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham and Paul Sanasardo.
We are happy to announce that we are opening up our Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday classes to in-person students! Masks will no longer be required unless you are not vaccinated. Please be prepared to show you vaccination card if asked. Thank you. And you will need to bring your own water to drink. We look forward to seeing you back in the studio!
There will be no class on the following days: Saturday, July 24; Saturday, August 21; Tuesday, August 24; Thursday, August 26 and Saturday, August 28
For now classes will continue to be available on Zoom. Hannah is teaching Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday dance classes using ZOOM. Scroll down to find the links. Tuesday and Thursday classes will run from 10-11:40 and Saturday classes will run from 10:30-11:45. We will do floor barre, a barre and some fairly stationary phrase work. Tuesdays and Thursdays are classes for intermediate and advanced dancers. Saturdays are intermediate level.
For all the details and there are lots – keep scrolling down.
What you will need:
a smartphone, iPad, desktop computer or laptop on which you have downloaded the ZOOM app. You can do that by going to their website, https://www.zoom.us/ or through the app store on your device, look for the blue video camera icon, it may be called ZOOM cloud. It is free.
Once you download it, you don’t need to do anything else; it will then be on your device and it will allow you to join the class via the meeting link below.
You will need a device with a camera if you want to be seen during class, but it is not necessary. If you have one, that will help me teach.
Next, you will need to find a spot in your home where you have a little bit of room to move. You may also want to have a mat, carpet or folded blanket to cushion you for the floor barre. Ideally you can also find a spot where there is something to hold onto for the barre work. It could just be the wall or a countertop. If your camera can be aimed at you that is ideal, but again, not necessary.
You will need to get all of this done in advance so that you can be ready to sign on and join the class. Here are the links for the Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday classes. Please click on the one for the class you want to join and it will open in ZOOM. Choose to listen with computer audio and if prompted also allow video.
